The Great Victorian Rail Trail runs right out the front of the Woodfield Shearer’s Quarters with easy access just 10km north of Merton.

The Great Victorian Rail Trail is one of the longest Rail Trails in Victoria and is world renowned for it’s diversity and amazing scenery that attracts visitors from all over Australia and the world. The Great Victorian Rail Trail, formerly known as the Goulburn River High Country Rail Trail is the longest and most scenic rail trail in Victoria with 134kms of trail to be explored.


Being the closest Rail Trail from Melbourne you can start your rail trail journey at Tallarook or catch a train to Tallarook Train Station

Venture just a little or ride all the way through to Mansfield via Yea, Alexandra, Yarck, Merton, Woodfield, Bonnie Doon and Maindample before finishing at Mansfield or of Course jump on the trail at any point and ride in whatever direction you choose. The scenery, wildlife and terrain are worthwhile no matter what part you ride.
